Can Tho in 2 Days: Best Things to See & Do

On The 1st Day In Can Tho City

After check-in at the hotel, you should have a walk around Ninh Kieu Park & Riverfront (Downtown, on Hai Ba Trung Street). Ninh Kieu Park is a city park located along the Can Tho River, stretching from the ferry terminal at Nguyen An Ninh Kieu Road to the Ninh Hotel at the end of Hai Ba Trung Street. Although the park has some greenery, one of its most notable features is a public square around a large statue of Ho Chi Minh.

The other big attraction is Ninh Kieu Tourist Market, which houses vendors of souvenirs of Vietnam, cafes and restaurants. Just outside the market you will also find a ticket office, a boat that sells trips to the river at places like the Cai Rang Floating Market. The park is a busy place at night, when locals gather to hang out, play badminton, breakdance, or sit and eat sweet bean chè. The night market on Nguyen An Ninh and Chau Van Liem streets is a good place to look for bargains, milk tea, and a variety of street foods. Many restaurants at Hai Ba Trung Street near the park, too, so you will always find what you need if you look around.

You should also try local Vietnamese food sold on the boat at this market to discover more about the taste of the Mekong cuisine.

On The 2nd Day In Can Tho City

In the morning, you should do the floating market rides and have a boat trip inside small canals to see the real life of the Mekong. Back to the trip, we recommend walking around the colorful, busy local markets: Fish Markets, Vegetable Markets ... (P.S.: We also have a little tip for local markets, such as fish or vegetable markets: this is their livelihood and they may not appreciate you standing face-to-face with them for taking pictures, just keep on the side and try it quickly in 5-10 seconds. Every picture is nice, but we hope you understand that this is their life).

In the afternoon, there are two options:

Religious buildings

For the Chinese style: Chùa NGO (Ong Pagoda), 32 Hai Ba Trung Street (in front of Ninh Kieu Park). Right in front of the Ho Chi Minh statue at Ninh Kieu Park is a small pagoda, built in the 1890s.

For Khmer style: Munirensay Temple (Khmer Pagoda; Munirangsyaram), 36 Hoa Binh St (near the corner of Hoa Binh and De Tham Street).

For Christian: Tuong Tham Church (On Mau Than St). Sunday service is at 6:30 pm. Beautiful little church built by the French.

For Catholics: Tin Lanh Baptist Church (Near Can Tho University in Mau Than). Sunday service is at 6:30 pm. About 30% of Vietnamese are Catholic, but as this church shows, Protestant denominations are also present.

For the Vietnamese style of (as Monastery): Quang Duc Pagoda (Mau Than St). One of the largest and most active Buddhist temples with monks living on the premises. Visitors are welcome at any time of the day. There are fewer people during the afternoon, when it is hot enough, but it gets very busy often in the evenings.

If you are a bird lover: One of the famous stork sanctuaries in the Mekong Delta, Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary, has attracted thousands of storks and other bird species to nest and live there. In the afternoon is the best time to watch them as they fly back to the sanctuary after all day in the fields and the rivers to feed.
