Visitors to Mekong Delta during the floating water cannot miss the best three routes as below

Chau Doc – Tra Su (An Giang)

This is the most typical route because An Giang sees more floating water time than any other in the Mekong Delta. It is very convenient to travel from Saigon to Chau Doc by both car and motorbike with the distance of 250km.

In Chau Doc, you should explore the local life, which still remains traditional Khmer culture. In the morning, enjoy noodles with fried fish, then visit the prosperity goodness of Southern Vietnam’s Thanism at Sam mountain or Chau Giang village through a ferry. At this village, all churches are built as in Islamic architecture with big mosques or as typical stilt houses in the Cham architecture. There are some families producing sponge cakes, which are made in the bronze patterns and cooked by fired coal. If you go to Tan Chau, you will find some families remaining traditional weavers.

Tra Su bird sanctuary is 30km from Chau Doc, which is an attractive cajuput forest to visitors during the floating water. At this place, you will ride a sampan to visit the forest with an area of 850 hectares. Price is VND 45,000 (USD 2) per person depending on the group sizes.

Tra Su – Ta Pa – Bung Binh Thien (An Giang)

This is also one of the best routes for a Mekong river cruise. Ta Pa is in Nui, which is 1 km from Tri Ton town and is one of seven mountains forming the mysterious “That Son” (seven mountains). Watercolor interestingly changes, being deep blue in the deep area and bright blue in the shallow areas, but you also can see some black, orange or yellowish areas.

Bung Binh Thien is 35km from Chau Doc and is a big freshwater lake. There are four ethnic minorities living around the lake. Among them, the Cham Islam ethnic minority offer many unique characters and still maintain traditional culture in their lives.

Sa Dec – Tram Chim (Dong Thap)

Dong Thap is a head province of Mekong river which offers many beautiful sites during the floating water. Visitors often travel from Saigon to Sa Dec, which has a famous hundred-year-old flower village. This province also is the place of the ancient house of Huynh Thuy Le, built in 1895 by Chinese. Huynh Thuy Le was the character in the famous novel “Lover” by writer Marguerite Duras (French writer).

Tram Chim national park is located in Tam Nong district which is very impressive because of its deep green cajuput forests and valuable and rare animals and flora.
