As a UNESCO Heritage Site that has just been voted one of the best cities in the world by Travel + Leisure, Hoi An is a must-visit destination that's bound to steal your heart. With its charming lantern-lit streets, rich history, and mouthwatering cuisine, this little town offers a perfect blend of culture and relaxation. There are so many things to see, do, and experience in this charming town. Make the most of your stay with this ideal Hoi An 3-day itinerary!

How Many Days in Hoi An is enough?

When planning a trip to Hoi An, 2-3 days is usually just right. If you only have 2 days, you'll have enough time to explore the charming Ancient Town, wander through the lantern-lit streets, visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, and enjoy some delicious local food.

But if you can swing an extra day, having 3 days in Hoi An gives you more breathing room to explore nearby attractions. You could take a day trip to Da Nang to visit Ba Na Hills, check out the Marble Mountains, or relax on My Khe Beach. This way, you get to experience both the laid-back vibe of Hoi An and some of the cool spots around it.

What to Do in Hoi An for 3 Days

Day 1: Hoi An Ancient Town & Lantern-Making Workshop

The first day of your Hoi An 3-day itinerary is going to be dedicated to the Ancient Town and its most iconic attractions, all the essentials. Start your day with a visit to the iconic 18th-century Japanese Covered Bridge. It's become a symbol of Hoi An, showcasing the town's rich history and blend of Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese architecture. It’s also featured on the 20,000 VND banknote.

Next, visit the Old House of Tan Ky. This 200-year-old house offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy merchant family. Its unique architecture and well-preserved antiques make it a must-see in your Hoi An 3-day itinerary. Then, make your way to the Fujian Assembly Hall, a stunning Chinese temple with intricate carvings and beautiful courtyards, perfect for some serene moments and great photos.

Head to Hoi An's Central Market for a variety of local dishes. Try the famous Cao Lau noodles or Banh Mi for a quick and tasty meal. If you’re thirsty, have a sip of the famous Mót tea, a refreshing herbal drink that is unique to Hoi An. Then, learn more about the town's history, culture, and trade through interesting exhibits, such as the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum, which showcases the cultures of ethnic tribes through the work of French photographer Réhahn.

Join a lantern-making workshop in the early evening. Hoi An is famous for its colorful lanterns, and making your own is a fun and creative way to dive into local culture. Plus, you get to take your lantern home as a lovely souvenir. After the workshop, stroll through the vibrant night market in Hoi An. Enjoy the atmosphere, grab some snacks, and marvel at the beautiful lantern-lit streets.

Day 2: Eco-Cooking Class & Bamboo Basket Boat Tour

After a full day of exploration, your second day in the Hoi A 3-day itinerary is going to be a little more relaxing.

Eco-Cooking Class: Start your day with a visit to a local market. You'll get to pick fresh ingredients and learn about Vietnamese cuisine. Back at the cooking school, you'll learn to prepare several traditional Vietnamese dishes, such as Bánh Xèo (Vietnamese savory pancakes) or Vietnamese green papaya salad with shrimp. It's a hands-on experience, and the best part is enjoying the meal you've cooked! Savor the delicious dishes you've made during the cooking class. It's a great way to appreciate the flavors and skills involved in Vietnamese cuisine.

Bamboo Basket Boat Tour: Head to the charming Cam Thanh village, known for its water coconut palm forest. Hop into a bamboo basket boat for a unique tour through the tranquil waterways,  and you might even get to try your hand at fishing or crab catching. You’ll also get to enjoy some local entertainment, such as boat racing or a fun dance performance on the water.

After an exciting day, unwind at one of the riverside cafes in Hoi An. Sip on a cold drink and enjoy the view as the town lights up with lanterns.

Day 3: Day Trip to Danang

Taking an excursion to Dang from Hoi An is the perfect way to end your Hoi An 3-day itinerary. Start your day with a visit to Ba Na Hills, with the famous Golden Bridge.

Your first adventure is the famous Cable Car Ride. It's the world's longest non-stop single-track cable car and offers stunning panoramic views. As you ascend, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of lush landscapes and waterfalls. Disembark at the top and head straight to the Golden Bridge, the highlight of Ba Na Hills. This iconic structure, supported by two giant stone hands, provides an unparalleled view of the surrounding mountains and forests.

Take some time to explore more of Ba Na Hills. There are numerous walking trails, gardens, and viewpoints where you can marvel at the lush landscapes, waterfalls, and mountain views. Don't miss the Linh Ung Pagoda and the impressive Buddha statue.

Spend your afternoon relaxing at My Khe beach. It's known for its long stretch of white sand and clear waters. Perfect for a swim or just lounging under the sun. End your day with some of Danang’s specialties like Mi Quang or Bun Cha Ca at a local restaurant before heading back, or have a nice dinner in Hoi An.
