About Tan Lap Floating Village
Tan Lap Floating Village is located on National Highway 62, in Tan Lap Commune, Moc Hoa District, Long An Province, at the heart of the Dong Thap Muoi region, more than 15 kilometers south of the Cambodian border.
Tan Lap Floating Village used to be a land perpetually submerged in water; the locals grew accustomed to "living with floods" and built houses on high mounds. To adapt to the water level, the floor of the house would also be elevated. Over time, people colloquially referred to it as the "floating village." Today, this place no longer has any residents because the government started a project to transform it into an ecotourism area.
Tan Lap Floating Village covers an area of 135 hectares and a buffer zone of 500 hectares. The tourist zone includes 5 hectares of infrastructure such as lodges, parks, piers, etc. The remaining 130 hectares represent an extensive ecosystem.
Things to See and Do in Tan Lap Floating Village, Long An
Take a Canoe Ride
At Tan Lap Floating Village, visitors can take a canoe or a boat ride and immerse themselves in nature on a journey of over 3 kilometers around the cajuput forest.
After purchasing tickets, visitors will start to navigate through the small channels aboard small boats amidst the cajuput forest. It's truly peaceful as visitors sit on the boat gently swaying on the water, taking in the scent of cajuput, admiring the blooming lotus and water lilies along the river, and watching the birds soaring in the vivid blue sky, occasionally swaying with the flow of the water.
Take a Walk Through the Cajuput Forest
The cajuput forest is one of the most intriguing and impressive locations in the Tan Lap Floating Village, thanks to its wild yet mysterious beauty. Traversing the vast cajuput forest involves a path that stretches up to 5 kilometers. Visitors can walk along this path, immersing themselves in the serene surroundings, with some sections shaded and others bathed in sunlight.
The observation tower, standing at 38 meters high, is located right in the center of the cajuput forest. This is where visitors can enjoy the fresh breeze while taking in panoramic views of the magnificent forest and the entire Tan Lap Floating Village. When standing at the top of the tower during the flood season, you can admire the vast water-covered fields with beautiful interspersed lotus and water lily ponds. During the dry season, you will be greeted by expansive rice fields stretching to the horizon.
Cross the X and Y bridges
The X and Y Bridges are two intersecting paths amidst a vast pond of water lilies, covered in shades of green and pink. This has got to be one of the most beautiful and poetic sights in Tan Lap Floating Village. Visitors can follow the path through the cajuput forest or take a boat ride through the pond and take Instagram-worthy photos.
Canh Dong Bat Tan - Infinite Field
The reason why it is called ‘Canh Dong Bat Tan’ (Infinite Field) is because it was the setting of a very famous movie of the same name. When you visit this place, you will experience the tranquillity of the land of Long An. In addition, the ‘Infinite Field’ is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset. Every evening, watching the white herons flying over the river will surely leave you with unforgettable memories.
Phuoc Loc Tho Ancient Village
Phuoc Loc Tho ancient village isn’t actually ancient but rather a large-scale museum. It was built in 2006 and covers a fairly large area of about 10 hectares. When exploring the ancient village, you'll sequentially admire 22 ancient wooden houses restored to reflect the cultural characteristics of all three regions of Vietnam: North, Central, and South, as well as traditional stilt houses from the Central Highlands. There is also a display of hundreds of rare collectibles and artifacts, ranging from everyday items used by kings, mandarins, landlords, and common people to spiritual and cultural artifacts of the Vietnamese people. Each item is showcased in a different house.
