Top 15 Best Hot Springs and Onsens in Vietnam

If you’re looking for a break from the noise, traffic, and heat in Vietnam, spending a day at a hot spring or onsen might be exactly what you need. Many of them are naturally heated and rich in minerals, while others follow Japanese or Korean spa traditions with onsen-style soaking pools and jjimjilbang saunas.

In this guide, we’ll take you through the Top 15 Best Hot Springs and Onsens in Vietnam, with honest details, practical tips, and suggestions on what to do nearby. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or with family, there's a hot spring here worth adding to your itinerary.

In North Vietnam

Kim Boi Hot Springs, Hoa Binh

Kim Boi is one of the oldest hot spring destinations in North Vietnam. You’ll find it in Hoa Binh Province, about 2 hours by car from Hanoi. The water comes from a natural underground mineral source and stays around 34–36°C. Locals believe it helps with arthritis, skin problems, and blood circulation.

The most common place to soak is Serena Resort Kim Boi. Serena offers a comfortable experience with good hygiene, private tubs, and modern facilities.

What else to do nearby: Kim Boi is close to Mai Chau, a peaceful valley surrounded by rice fields and ethnic minority villages. If you have time, we suggest combining both in a trip.

Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh, Quang Ninh

Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh is the most high-end onsen resort in Vietnam. It’s located in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh Province, about 2 hours from Hanoi and just 30 minutes from Ha Long Bay. This place is run by Sun Group and was built with direct input from Japanese architects. The facilities are clean, well-designed, and follow a real Japanese bathing style.

There are both public and private bathing areas, indoor and outdoor hot springs, sauna rooms, and even a large Japanese garden. You’ll find different pools with varying mineral compositions and temperatures. The water comes from a natural underground source and is rich in sodium bicarbonate. Yoko also offers onsen-themed hotel stays, massage services, and a Japanese-style restaurant.

The price is not cheap. A day pass costs around 800,000–1,200,000 VND per person depending on the package. But if you’re looking for a proper onsen experience in Vietnam, this is where you’ll find it.

What else to do nearby: Ha Long Bay is very close. You can easily visit Yoko Onsen in the morning and take a cruise around Ha Long Bay in the afternoon or the next day. Bai Tu Long Bay is also an option if you want fewer crowds.

Kenh Ga Hot Springs, Ninh Binh

Kenh Ga is a lesser-known hot spring in Ninh Binh Province. It used to be more popular in the past, but these days it feels a bit forgotten. The spring is located near the Kenh Ga Floating Village, and the water comes from a mineral-rich underground source. The temperature stays around 50°C. Some people say it smells a bit like sulfur, which is common for natural hot springs.

There is a Kenh Ga Hot Springs Resort, but you shouldn’t expect luxury. It’s quiet, and the surroundings are peaceful, so it might appeal to travelers who want something off the beaten path.

What else to do nearby: Ninh Binh is one of Vietnam’s top destinations for nature lovers. You can visit Trang An, Tam Coc, Bich Dong Pagoda, and Bai Dinh Temple. We suggest doing a boat ride in the late afternoon—it’s less hot and the light is perfect for photos.

Flamingo Cat Ba Onsen, Cat Ba Island

Cat Ba is mostly known for its beaches, hiking, and boat trips, but Flamingo Cat Ba Beach Resort added something new—a Japanese-style onsen overlooking the sea. The onsen area is part of a larger luxury resort. If you’re already planning to visit Cat Ba and want a relaxing place to stay, Flamingo is worth considering.

The onsen includes indoor and outdoor hot mineral pools, saunas, cold plunges, and a rest area. The setting is elegant, and you get a beautiful view of the ocean while soaking in hot water. It’s not a traditional natural spring, though—the mineral water is pumped and processed but still enjoyable.

What else to do nearby: Cat Ba National Park is a great place to go hiking and see wildlife. You can also take a boat trip to Lan Ha Bay, which is less touristy than Ha Long Bay but just as beautiful. If you like climbing, there are also deep water soloing and rock climbing tours available.

Thanh Thuy Hot Springs, Phu Tho

Thanh Thuy is a quiet district in Phu Tho Province, about 70 km from Hanoi. The hot spring area here isn’t very developed for international tourism, but it’s popular with locals, especially on weekends. The water reaches up to 53°C and contains minerals believed to help with skin and joint problems.

Several hotels and resorts in Thanh Thuy offer access to hot spring baths. One of the better ones is Ohayo Onsen & Spa.

The town itself doesn’t have much to offer, so it’s better to treat this as a short stop to rest and relax, not a full tourist destination.

What else to do nearby: You can combine this trip with a visit to Hung Kings Temple (Den Hung), the most important spiritual site in Phu Tho. It’s about 45 minutes away and worth visiting if you’re interested in Vietnamese history and culture.

Amare Onsen & Jjimjilbang, Hanoi

If you don’t have time to leave Hanoi, Amare Onsen & Jjimjilbang is a good urban option. It’s located in the western part of Hanoi (Nam Tu Liem District), inside the Grand Plaza Hotel complex. Amare is a Korean-style jjimjilbang, not a natural hot spring, but it does offer hot mineral baths, saunas, and steam rooms.

You’ll find several bathing pools with different temperatures, Himalayan salt rooms, an ice room, and a large resting area where people relax, sleep, or eat Korean food. It’s clean, well-managed, and popular with both Vietnamese and Korean expats. Women and men bathe separately in the nude in the onsen area, following Korean etiquette. The common sauna zone is co-ed and everyone wears the jjimjilbang uniform provided.

It’s a good place to unwind after a day of walking around Hanoi, especially if you're staying in the city for a while and want a break from sightseeing.

What else to do nearby: You’re already in Hanoi, so there’s plenty to do—visit the Old Quarter, the Temple of Literature, or Hoan Kiem Lake, or watch a water puppet show.

Ban Mai Retreat, Son La

Ban Mai Retreat is a small eco-resort in Son La Province that focuses on quiet stays, wellness, and natural hot springs. It’s located in a village area surrounded by forests and mountains. This is one of the more peaceful and lesser-known hot spring destinations in the north.

The mineral water comes from an underground spring and is used in both private and outdoor pools. The water temperature is around 38–40°C. There are just a few bungalows, so the experience feels personal and private. If you want to escape the noise, this is a great place to disconnect. The owners also offer herbal soaks, massage services, and simple home-cooked meals.

Getting there takes time—it’s about 5 hours from Hanoi—but the road is scenic. We suggest going for at least 2 nights to make the trip worthwhile.

What else to do nearby: You can explore local ethnic villages or drive to nearby tea plantations. If you’re visiting during the blooming season (late January to March), you’ll see plum and peach blossoms covering the hills. It’s a beautiful area for landscape photography.

Tram Tau Hot Springs, Yen Bai

Tram Tau is a small district in Yen Bai Province, best known among Vietnamese travelers for its terraced rice fields and quiet nature. The hot spring here is more rustic than developed, but that’s part of the charm. It’s located about 1 km from Tram Tau town and is managed by a local family.

There are a few concrete pools filled with naturally hot mineral water from an underground source. The water is usually around 40–43°C. It’s basic—no fancy spa setup—but it’s clean and surrounded by nature. If you want to bathe in hot springs with a view of green hills and rice terraces, this is a great stop.

There are simple homestays nearby where you can stay overnight. You’ll be eating local food and sleeping in traditional wooden houses. It’s a peaceful experience for travelers who enjoy off-the-beaten-path places.

What else to do nearby: Tram Tau is a good base for trekking. If you’re an experienced hiker, you can climb Ta Chi Nhu—one of Vietnam’s highest peaks. The hike is challenging but beautiful, especially during cloud-hunting season from September to November.

My Lam Hot Springs, Tuyen Quang

My Lam Hot Springs is located about 13 km from Tuyen Quang City in the northeast. This area was discovered during the French colonial period and has been used as a wellness retreat for decades. It’s still not very touristy, which makes it a relaxing stop if you’re traveling through northern Vietnam.

The spring water is rich in minerals like calcium and magnesium, and it comes out at around 40°C. You can also enjoy mud baths, saunas or herbal baths.

What else to do nearby: You can explore the Tan Trao Historical Site, where the Viet Minh prepared for the August Revolution in 1945. The area is also surrounded by forests and tea hills, which are nice for a short walk or motorbike ride.

In Central Vietnam

Bang Onsen Spa & Resort, Quang Binh

Bang Onsen is located in Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province, around 60 km from Dong Hoi city. The area is known for having the hottest natural mineral spring in Vietnam, with water reaching up to 105°C at the source. Obviously, you won’t be bathing in boiling water. The spring water is cooled and used in different pools and tubs at nearby resorts and spas.

Recently, the area has been developed by Japanese experts to create a modern onsen-style experience. The new Bang Onsen Spa & Resort includes indoor and outdoor baths, sauna rooms, herbal soaks, and VIP zones. It’s clean, organized, and very quiet compared to larger hot spring parks. The price is also higher, but the facilities are better.

What else to do nearby: You can combine a visit here with a trip to Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park. It’s home to famous caves like Son DoongParadise Cave, and Phong Nha Cave. It’s one of Vietnam’s top destinations for nature and adventure.

Tay Vien Hot Springs, Quang Nam

Tay Vien Hot Springs is located in Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, about 45 minutes from Hoi An. This spot is still local and not well known among foreign tourists. The facilities are very basic, with only a few simple soaking pools.

The spring water contains sulfur and other minerals and stays at around 60°C at the source. It’s cooled down before reaching the pools.

What else to do nearby: From here, you can head to My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of ancient Cham temples in the jungle. It’s one of the most important archaeological sites in Vietnam. Hoi An is also close, so you can return there to stay the night.

Alba Thanh Tan Hot Springs, Hue

Alba Hot Springs is located about 30 km northwest of Hue city. This is a well-known wellness destination that combines hot springs, nature activities, and a quiet resort. The mineral water comes from a depth of over 60 meters and contains calcium, magnesium, and other natural elements. It’s pumped into different types of baths, including large outdoor pools, hot tubs, and private rooms.

What makes Alba unique is the combination of wellness and eco-adventure. Besides soaking, you can try the highwire course, zipline, or bike rides, or participate in meditation and yoga sessions. It’s very clean, quiet, and green. The resort has accommodation if you want to stay overnight, or you can visit for the day.

What else to do nearby: Back in Hue, you can explore the Imperial Citadelroyal tombs, and Thien Mu Pagoda, or take a boat ride along the Perfume River. If you have time, we recommend visiting Tam Giang Lagoon at sunset—it’s one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in central Vietnam.

Nui Than Tai Hot Springs, Da Nang

Nui Than Tai is one of the largest and most developed hot spring parks in Vietnam. It’s located in Ba Na–Nui Chua Nature Reserve, about 20 km from Da Nang city center. If you’re traveling with kids or want a full day of fun, this is a good choice. The park combines natural hot springs with water slides, wave pools, mud baths, and Japanese-style onsen areas.

The Japanese onsen section includes indoor and outdoor mineral baths, stone bathtubs, herbal soaks, saunas, and a foot massage area. The water is heated naturally and flows from underground mineral sources. The park also has a dinosaur-themed zone, restaurants, and even a hotel inside the complex.

It gets crowded during weekends and Vietnamese holidays, so weekdays are better if you want a quieter visit. Entrance fees start around 450,000 VND per person for basic access. You’ll need to pay extra for certain zones like private baths or mud therapy.

What else to do nearby: Da Nang has many attractions. You can visit Marble MountainsMy Khe Beach, and Son Tra Peninsula, or drive up to Ba Na Hills for the Golden Bridge. Hoi An is also just an hour away if you want to combine sightseeing with a relaxing day at the springs.

In South Vietnam

Binh Chau Hot Springs, Ba Ria – Vung Tau

Binh Chau is the most famous hot spring destination in southern Vietnam. It’s located about 150 km from Ho Chi Minh City and 60 km from Vung Tau. The springs are inside a forested area near the coast, making this a great place to relax after a few days in the city or on the beach.

The water here comes from underground and reaches around 82°C at the source. You won’t bathe in that directly, of course—resorts cool the water for use in mineral pools, hot tubs, and spa services. The Binh Chau Hot Springs complex, which has been operating for years and recently got a facelift. They are rebranded as Minera Hot Springs Binh Chau and now offer Japanese-style onsen areas, herbal baths, mud therapy, fish spas, and even a natural hot water pond where you can boil eggs.

There’s also a small zoo and a forest trail for walking. The onsen area is peaceful, and the service has improved a lot in recent years. Weekends get busy with local tourists, so try to come on a weekday.

What else to do nearby: You can easily combine this with a trip to Ho Tram Beach, which is about 20 minutes away. The beach is clean and less crowded than Vung Tau. There are some luxury resorts like The Grand Ho Tram Strip if you want to upgrade your stay.

The Sparadise, Ho Chi Minh City

The Sparadise is a Korean-style jjimjilbang and onsen retreat located in District 1, right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. It's one of the best spots in the city if you're looking for a full spa and hot bath experience without leaving town. The place combines heated mineral water baths, dry and steam saunas, body scrubs, relaxation lounges, and massage services in one well-organized space.

The onsen section includes multiple temperature pools, cold plunge baths, and herbal tubs. The jjimjilbang part has heated stone rooms, salt rooms, and wooden saunas, where you can lie down, rest, and sweat out the tension. After that, you can relax in the lounge area with Korean-style snacks, tea, or a nap on a floor mat. It’s very clean and not too crowded during weekdays.

This place is popular with both locals and expats, especially those who know the value of a good soak after a long day. We recommend booking a package that includes a body scrub and massage for the full experience. Prices are mid-range by city standards but fair for what you get.

What else to do nearby: District 1 is where most of Ho Chi Minh City’s main attractions are. Before your spa session, you can explore places like the War Remnants MuseumBen Thanh Market, or Nguyen Hue Walking Street. Everything is close, so it’s easy to plan a full day of sightseeing and end it with a soak at The Sparadise.
