Listen To Hue Folk Music On The Perfume River

If you're wondering what to do at night in Hue, do this first! Coming to Hue without ever listening to Ca Hue, or Hue folk singing on the Perfume River, would be such a pity. Imagine sitting peacefully on a boat floating on the river’s surface, with the gentle melodies and captivating songs echoing in your ears. It will surely be engraved in your subconscious for a long time.

Known as the unique art form of the Ancient Capital of Hue, Hue folk singing emerged around the 17th century and was primarily reserved for the noble and upper-class. It is expressed in two styles: Northern tunes and Southern tunes. The lively and dignified tunes are Northern, while the melancholic and sentimental ones belong to the Southern style.

You can go to the pier near Truong Tien Bridge to buy tickets and board the Dragon Boat to join a Hue singing performance. Once in the middle of the river, the boat engine is turned off, allowing the boat to gently float on the river and the program to commence.

Though Hue isn’t a party capital like Saigon, people still appreciate good alcohol. If you enjoy alcoholic drinks, you can go to one of the local bars and have a look at Hue's nightlife.

Brown Eyes Bar

Opens “until the last one passes out”. Located in the heart of "Pho Tay" (Backpacker’s Street) in Hue, Brown Eyes possesses a modest appearance—not overly tidy, not necessarily stunning. However, its charm lies in the atmosphere, where both international and local guests can mingle and freely dance to classic rock songs.

DMZ Bar

Established in 1994 as a small place along Le Loi Street with a humble capacity of about 40 people, DMZ Bar is the first bar in Hue. Over the past 26 years, DMZ has evolved into not just a well-known bar but also a brand incorporating a hotel and a restaurant.

Try Craft Beer In Hue

According to Kirin Holdings, Vietnam is the largest consumer of beer in the Southeast Asian market. Craft beer has been around in Vietnam for not that long, since 2012 or 2013, but it has been continuously growing, so microbreweries started to pop up more and more. The craft beer formulas in Vietnam are highly diverse, thanks to the geographical advantages. Vietnam possesses a wide range of herbs and fruits, such as lemongrass, passion fruit, red radish, coffee, cocoa, and rare seeds that are only found in the mountainous regions like “hat doi” and “mac khen”. These are all common ingredients used in the brewing of craft beer.

Visit the XQ Embroidery Art Museum Hue

The XQ Embroidery Art Museum, located next to the Perfume River, on Pham Hong Thai Street, is the first of its kind in Hue. Currently, there are over 400 works, artifacts, paintings, and documents related to the art of embroidery. All the works in the museum are created by artists from Hue, arranged to provide viewers with a fresh experience upon entering.

The introduction to the place states, "Embroidery is a woman whose material and spiritual life is defined by the landscape and geographical elements." Perhaps that's why many exhibited works focus on the theme of Vietnamese women. A pathway leading deep inside will take visitors to admire the works arranged under three main themes: "Embroidery Body", "Embroidery Face" and "Embroidery Voice".

In addition to embroidered paintings, antique costumes are also displayed. Various wooden statues, vases, bags, and other items are also strategically placed among the exhibits. The museum tells the historical origins and development of the art of embroidery, providing an intimate perspective on the craft and honoring the position of women as the masters of embroidery.
