Vietnam Travel Map with Cities: North to South Guide

Lying on the eastern part of the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam is a strip of land in the shape of the letter "S," with thousands of islands and archipelagos off the coast; The Vietnamese territory covers about 332,000 square kilometers. Vietnam borders on three countries: China in the North, Laos and Cambodia in the West, the "East Sea" in the East and the Pacific Ocean in the East and South .

Visitors are amazed by the geographical diversity of Vietnam with its vibrant and traditional cities, idyllic coastline, incredible scenery, thrilling history and rich culture. For lovers of discovery, they must book a trip of at least a month for discovery throughout Vietnam. The French divided Vietnam into 3 regions: North (called Tonkin), Center (called Annam), and South (called Cochinchina). We can also follow this way, but we are based on tourism but it is more useful for Vietnam highlight tours only because some remote areas are not listed on the map.

North Vietnam Tourist Map

From Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, we have at least 3 main directions to travel. To the Northwest: we can take the night train to Lao Cai to visit Sapa, where the fields are terraced and there are remote villages and exotic markets of ethnic inhabitants such as H'Mong, Thai White, Thai Black, Red Dao, Day ... One can also follow a longer route by car from Hanoi to Sapa via Hoa Binh province where there is the hydroelectric dam of Hoa Binh and the peaceful valley of Mai Chau; via the province of Son La, where the prison of the same name is well known in the history of Indochina; via the province of Dien Bien to visit the remains of the well-known Dien Bien Phu battle in Franco-Vietnamese history; and via Lai Chau province and then visit Sapa with its extraordinary images.

To the Northeast: one can drive to visit the provinces such as Thai Nguyen province, well known for tea; Bac Kan province, which owns the extremely wide Ba Be Lake; and Ha Giang province, to whom God offered the Dong Van stone plateau and ethnic inhabitants rich in history and culture. From Dong Van, one can continue northeast to visit the majestic waterfall of Ban Gioc near the China border, pass Lang Son and visit Ha Long bay which is considered the 8th wonder of the world.

Southbound: From Hanoi to the South, the ancient capital of Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh), known as "Halong Bay Land," and the Trang An Ecological Reserve are always chosen to visit, then depart to other provinces south of Hanoi to discover different cultural customs and traditions in the Fleuve Rouge delta region.

The Center With The Former Imperial Capital Of Hue.

We fly from Hanoi to Hue, and then we can visit the provinces around Hue.

North of Hue: You can visit Quang Binh province, which is well known in the last years for the caves of Son Doong, Phong Nha, or Paradise (Thien Duong), and then the Quang Tri province with historical sites like the 17th parallel, which divided Vietnam into two parts in 1954.

To the south of Hue: the ancient city of Hoi An with the traces of the Chinese, Japanese and Europeans; its peaceful villages are well preferred to visit. The city of Da Nang and its beautiful beaches and the entertainment center of Ba Na are also the destinations chosen by travelers. From Da Nang, you can continue south by train or car or plane to enjoy the beautiful white sand beaches of Nha Trang, where the stories of the French doctor Alexandre de Yersin are told with gratitude, respect and love. love.

From Da Nang or Nha Trang, if you climb to the mountains in the highlands of Vietnam, you will be surprised at the life of the ethnic inhabitants of Banars, Irais, Sodang, Ede, and their cultural spaces, Gongs. The coffee culture, the beautiful wooden cathedral, and the missionary seminary (also in wood) of Kontum are traces left of the French.

The South With Saigon

The Pearl of the East and the Mekong Delta. It is sure that you will be surprised at the difference in the way of life of the 3 regions. If the North keeps the traditional values of a thousand years, if the Center is proud of its history of the Nguyen dynasty and its royal cultural values, the South is proud of the values of freedom, prosperity and openness to the world. world.

The French monuments in the center of the city are the remains of the French colonial era; the presence of Vietnamese-origin Chinese in Cho Lon makes abundant the culture of this region. All that belongs to the foreign culture in the South shows the opening of this region for everyone.

From Saigon, to the northwest you can visit the city of Da Lat, which is the former holiday resort of the French, or to the North you can enjoy the beaches or take beautiful pictures at the sandy hills of Mui Ne.

From Saigon too, if you go down to the Southwest, you will see an immense plain in the Mekong Delta, which is very fertile thanks to the river of the same name. It is the Mekong Delta that is helping Vietnam become the world's 2nd largest rice exporter.

Let's not forget thousands of islands dotted in the sea. In the North, there are thousands of islands in the Gulf of Tonkin, in which there is the bay of Ha Long. Near the literal North to South, we must count the 2 archipelagoes of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa that the Chinese want to seize by violence. To the south, the largest island of Phu Quoc is well known to travelers for its wild beauty.
