Best Time to Visit Vietnam: Weather & Travel Tips
Planning to go to Vietnam but don’t know what the best time of year for the trip is? Vietnam may not be that large of a country, but the temperature here is very diverse between areas. Depending on what kind of traveler you are—adventurous, a nature lover, a beach lover, or everything else—Vietnam has many things to please your holiday. And remember, there is really no bad moment to visit Vietnam!
Autumn In Vietnam (August To November)
Vietnam is quite hot and humid during the summer, which sometimes the visitors take time to adapt to. But after the summer, it’s another nice atmosphere.
This period may be our busiest tourist time of the year. Why? Because the average weather is 22°C, it’s not too hot nor cold with less rain and a lot of sunny days. The humidity level is comfortable too. Perfect for walking around and sightseeing.
Plus, there’s a mid-autumn festival called Trung Thu, a fun celebration with mooncakes and lanterns floating everywhere at night!
However, the beach destinations such as Da Nang and Hoi An have an increasing level of rain and typhoons occurring.
But still, if you’re planning to travel the whole country, this is the best time to go to Vietnam.
Winter In Vietnam (December To January)
If you’re planning to go trekking in Sapa, this is the snow period, and you’ll admire paddy fields covered in clear white. The rain decreases during the last months of winter in the coastal central.
In southern Vietnam, you’ll be enjoying a dry season with warm temperatures, so go south and enjoy sunny days at the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc Island.
If you are covering the whole of Vietnam during this period, remember to pack a little of all sorts of clothes due to all the different climates in different parts of the country. If you’re limited on your luggage, purchasing some nice clothes when you arrive is also a good idea.
Vietnamese Tet New Year
This is Vietnam’s most important celebration of the year and it can be really fun and festive! An experience to try! The weather is slightly cold in the north, and Hanoi becomes less crowded because people go back to home towns and villages while others stay at home to celebrate Tet with family. A lot of Vietnamese take their vacations so accommodation and transport places are taken quickly and at high prices; book yours in advance! Temples and pagodas are extremely crowded, though.
By this time, the Center is warmly celebrating the new spring with Banh Chung (pork covered with sticky rice). The ancient city of Hoi An is more lit up in lanterns than ever.
In the south, it’s still the dry season with an average temperature of 28°C and a lot of sunshine.
Spring In Vietnam (February To April)
This is a beautiful season in Vietnam; the temperatures are moderate and there’s very little rain all over the country. The weather is still cool in the North during this time. As for Sapa, it is warmer with mostly sunny days, ideal for trekking. Clear skies and warm weather as well in Halong bay, ideal for kayaking and observing the nature formations.
Hoi An is mild and dry, perfect for beach and sunbathing time.
No matter when you decide to go to Vietnam, it has a lot to offer and unique experiences awaiting!
