What to See and Do in Sin Suoi Ho Village

Exploring the Village of Sin Suoi Ho

This small town is located at the foot of the "Son Bac May" mountain at an altitude of 1,500 meters and 60 kilometers from Lai Chau province. Nestled among mountains and enveloped in clouds, it’s often compared to Sapa, but we would say its weather is much more unpredictable. One second, you can find yourself standing in a sea of white clouds, and a few minutes later, the weather changes dramatically with torrential rain. But as the saying goes "after rain comes sun," you’ll be back in the sun in no time.

Upon arriving at Sin Suoi Ho, you cannot help but be amazed at the sight of distinctive Mông wooden houses and trinh tuong houses. The unique feature of these houses is the stone fences manually stacked around the house, only about waist height. To this day, Sin Suoi Ho still preserves dozens of traditional trinh tuong houses.

Sin Suoi Ho also captivates visitors with its rich culture. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to witness or participate in one of their festivals, such as the Gau Tao Festival—the largest festival of the Mông people, held from the 3rd to the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. During this festival, visitors can participate in engaging folk games such as bamboo stick throwing, pole pushing, tug of war, and more. Mông women in the village still wear and weave traditional costumes from linen and maintain the unique technique of beeswax drawing on fabric passed down through generations. Along with that, traditional crafts such as winemaking, bamboo knitting, and forging are also stable sources of income for the local people.

Conquering O Quy Ho, one of the "Four Great Passes" of Vietnam

Perched at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, O Quy Ho is a famous destination in northern Vietnam. The route spans a significant portion of the territory of Lai Chau province and the other side in Lao Cai province near Sapa. The pass is exceptional, as it simultaneously marks the border between these two provinces while winding around the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, where Mount Fansipan, the highest peak at 3147.3 meters, stands. Although the road has undergone numerous repairs and renovations with safety measures, it is still renowned as one of the most dangerous roads in northern Vietnam. Stretching nearly 50 kilometers, O Quy Ho Pass begins in Sapa and ends in Tam Duong and is considered the longest in northwestern Vietnam. Its height, danger, and length contribute to its nickname as the king of passes in the northwest. The O Quy Ho pass offers breathtaking views of Thac Ba waterfall and Fansipan Peak in Sapa.

The Tac Tinh Waterfall

The Tac Tinh Waterfall, also known as the "Love Waterfall," located in Binh Lu commune, Tam Duong district, is a stunning destination in Lai Chau that you shouldn’t miss out on during your stay in Sin Suoi Ho village. From a distance, it resembles a gentle strip of silk floating in the vast expanse of mountains and majestic forests. What makes the Tac Tinh Waterfall even more beautiful and enchanting is the tragic love story behind it.

Once upon a time, in a village of the Dao ethnic group at the foot of the waterfall, there was a beautiful woman named Lo Lan, whose beauty was compared to that of wild orchids. She fell in love with a boy from the village, and the two were madly in love and inseparable. However, their love faced countless obstacles, as people tried to separate them and prevent them from being husband and wife. To keep her faithful love, bound by the vows between the two lovers, Lo Lan threw herself into the waterfall. It must be her beauty and endless love that has kept the Tac Tinh Waterfall immaculate and majestic over so many years.
