Best Time To Visit Vietnam: Weather & Travel Tips
Vietnam is usually known for its erratic weather patterns, which might sometimes ruin your so-called well-planned holidays. Due to the varying quantities of sunshine and rain across the country with more than 3260 kilometers of coastline, Vietnam is poised to offer three distinctive weather systems. This explains some situations so ironic that at times you do not know what to do but a give out conceding laughter: "OK, I give up on best time to visit Vietnam."
Don't give up! Because we are going to help you understand the Vietnam weather, and thus your Vietnam tours will never be in priceless situations like when you optimistically travel from the sunny Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, and the rain there does nothing but keep you inside your hotel room all day!
In southern Vietnam, it is pretty much dry from December to April or May. The rainy weather takes over the next six months until November (it is quite similar to the Center and North and consideredthe "Vietnam wet season"). Don't panic! In more southern provinces it does not rain dogs and cats all day, but only quick afternoon showers, and lucky for you, the rain in major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa, and Can Tho is so pleasant that you would even enjoy the untold beauty of it anyway. However, we do not recommend that you visit the Mekong Delta in the rainy season because of the flood; it can be a severe problem in this region sometimes. Regarding the temperature, if you're into hot and humid weather, southern Vietnam is perfect for you because the temperature here rarely drops below 22°C during the day. Unfortunately, at times it might get too hot, at around 35°C from March to May, and this is obviously not pleasant to those who are the least heat-tolerant at all.
You may also ask yourself "what the best time to go to central coastal Vietnam?", due to the influence of the monsoon in the northeast, the weather in these areas can be quite different from one another and from that of southern and northern Vietnam. For instance, the rainy season in Nha Trang starts from November to December, whereas it starts to rain in Hue and Da Nang from September to February. Farther to the north of the central coast, provinces in here can experience a more extreme climate, as they are often hit by typhoons. Moreover, it rains less in these regions and has a hot, dry summer. Luckily, even though it is hard to predict, the typhoon season tends to last from August to November. That being said, you can still pick a perfect time to observe the overwhelmingly beautiful sightings in here! Vietnam bike tours seem like a perfect option.
Regarding the Vietnam weather, especially in Northern Vietnam, if you are used to the fancy four-season pattern usually mentioned in didactic books, Northern provinces in general and Hanoi in particular are probably a perfect example for you to observe the four distinctive seasons. Winter took over this region in December; this is a perfect time for you to take your old but beautiful sweaters out of the closet to perform a spontaneous fashion show on Hanoi streets. Not to mention that this is also the time when New Year Holidays take place, what is more interesting than having a warm meeting with your friends and family and having hot and tasty Vietnamese food during this chilly weather? Spring often starts in late February or early March when the temperatures start to increase again. It keeps rising until summer, sometimes culminating in a horrifying temperature at 40°C between May and August! But then again, summer is also the time when it starts to rain so frequently, but unfortunately, summer in northern regions is not as pleasant as in the south. The hot temperature combined with long-lasting downpours creates a hot and sticky environment that even many of the Vietnamese do not seem to enjoy. Luckily, Fall is so much milder in this region, probably the most beautiful time of the year, until winter comes and the cycle keeps going on. Mountains in the north of the country sometimes engender rare snowfall, such as that in Sa Pa, and this is undoubtedly the most exciting thing to attract visitors from the south, those who have never seen snow in their life!
