Formerly known as Ceylon, the island of Sri Lanka remains shrouded in mystery and dreams. The Pearl of the Indian Ocean evokes images of spice gardens, tea plantations in delicate shades of green, jade-colored rice fields, and ancient cities reclaimed by the jungle — all set against the serene backdrop of Buddha statues. Some may remember the scars of the civil war or the devastation of the 2004 tsunami… But those pages have turned. Today, the Tear of India is one of joy, and smiles once again light up the faces of the Sri Lankan people, ever ready to welcome visitors with genuine warmth.
